Who We Are
Where Should I Live? (https://where-should-i-live.co.uk) is a free tool to help people find the best area to live in the UK. This privacy policy explains how we handle data when you use our site.
What Data We Collect
We do not require you to create an account, log in, or provide any personal information to use our tool. When you perform a search, the workplace address you enter is sent to our server to calculate commute times. We do not store your search queries or associate them with any identifying information.
Cookies
Our site uses cookies for the following purposes:
- Google AdSense — We use Google AdSense to display advertisements. Google may use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this or other websites. You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google's Ads Settings.
- Google Analytics — We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use our site (e.g. which pages are most popular, how long people stay). This data is aggregated and anonymous. Google Analytics uses cookies to collect this information. You can opt out using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
We do not use any first-party cookies for tracking or analytics beyond what is described above.
Third-Party Services
Our tool uses the following third-party APIs to provide its functionality:
- Google Maps Platform — To geocode addresses and calculate commute times. Your workplace address is sent to Google's servers for this purpose. Google's privacy policy applies to this data processing.
- Police API (data.police.uk) — To retrieve crime data. No personal data is sent to this API.
- HM Land Registry — To retrieve house price data. No personal data is sent.
Data Retention
We cache API responses (commute times, crime data, house prices) on our server to improve performance and reduce API costs. These caches contain geographic data only and are not linked to any individual user. We do not store any personal data on our servers.
Your Rights
Since we do not collect or store personal data, there is generally no personal data for us to provide, modify, or delete. If you believe we hold any personal data about you, please contact us and we will investigate promptly.
Children's Privacy
Our site is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from children.
